I've traveled to Tavira (Portugal) from Cadiz (Spain) today, a 7-hour journey by train and bus. It was a long day and I was looking forward to finally getting to my hostel... Until I realized that I had somehow booked myself into a resort-type place 6 kms away from town, in a hamlet called Santa Luzia... *groan* Don't ask me how I did that! Taxis don't like wasting their time going all the way out there in the winter, so I had a heck of a time hailing a cab. After finally finding a driver who was willing to help me (Obrigado, Manuel!), I was treated to this beautiful sunset from my Santa Luzia balcony.
OK, not bad. Turns out this part of Portugal is bursting with tourists during the summer, as it's full of beautiful beaches and wildlife. And I've got it all to myself! Except it's too cold to go to the beach. And all the wildlife has flown away. Oh. *feeling foolish* I'll make the best of it and catch up on some much-needed sleep. Tomorrow's another day. Yeah!

The next morning, fully-rested and happy, I walk the 6 kms into Tavira. No excuse for laziness --- I did, after all, walk 25 kms a day for a month straight not too long ago.... Why waste the cab fare? I stick my ear buds in, crank up some CCR and reach Tavira in about 45 minutes.
Turns out it's a Sunday; Tavira is 95% shut down. *groan* Where have my planning skills gone? I'm really off my game, here... Thankfully, Tavira is quite a pretty little town.
Seven-arched bridge, built by the Romans.
I'm really just taking photos for the sake of doing something, here...
I walk the 6 kms back to the hostel/resort only to find that my room has no WiFi (a traveler's life line!), so I hang out in the lobby to entertain myself with Facebook and YouTube. *sigh* First-world problems, I know -- but I'm so bored! Must take better care next time when choosing a hostel. Tomorrow, I head for the city of Évora. Should be bursting with activity! xx
